Loving Gaze thanks British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation for partnering with us on implementation of vegetable enterprise value chain development at Kona, Jalingo LGA, Taraba State.

The project’s objective is to empower rural Nigeria for a sustainable future through a sustainable agricultural value chain development. We will work together to enhance production skills, productivity marketing and income of members of the selected smallholder vegetable farmers at Kona.

We involved 30 small farmers, who would be formed into a cohesive cooperative group who will be empowered to cultivate 3 hectare of model vegetable farms.

We kicked off the program with a 3-day training in Kona (28-30th June 2916) with 55 attendees. The training was run by Mr Okonkwo E. Martins Agricultural Economist,–BA Agric Tech.
Mr Innocent S. Baya, lecturer at College of Agriculture in Jalingo, Taraba and Mr Chinedu G. Osuagu, Business Admin, Degree holder.

The training introduced several topics, including:
– General cultural practices of Maize, Tomato, Beans, Groundnut, Onion, Cabbage
– Fertilizer (Types and its application to farm land)
– Pest/Disease Control Measures of different Crops
– Irrigation System
– Agricultural marketing
– Farming records and accounting

The 3 hectare land has already been cleared and tiled, mapped for the 30 farmers and we are going to plant soon!
